About

Hello everyone, my name is Rosemary and I am the creative behind thenuanua. I am a Pasifika creative originally from New Zealand currently residing in Sydney, Australia.

All these creations are designed and handmade by me in my Sydney home. My work is a representation of my colourful imagination as well as a celebration of my heritage as a Pacific Islander (I am Samoan and Fijian-Indian). I have always loved creating things and have been obsessed with rainbows since I was a kid, so it seemed fitting to name my creative space thenuanua which is the Samoan word for Rainbow.
I have always appreciated the depth and detail in fibre art. I never learnt how to knit or crochet, but I was always fascinated by the colours and patterns that could be created with some knitting needles and balls of yarn. I always wanted something more than a sweater and scarf, something big and vibrant that could physically take up space. I started doing some research a few years ago and discovered tapestry or modern hand weaving. It was the perfect technique for me, because it gave me the creative freedom to paint any picture I wanted, as well the added bonus of an array of textures. Although all my pieces take a fair amount of time to create, I thoroughly enjoy the making process and feel so rewarded with the final results.
Thank you so much for visiting my shop and if you would like to see more of my part, you can follow me on instagram or facebook. For other creatives I've also added some FAQs about my craft here
